The Education Centre

Building A Brighter Future

Physical Education & Recreation

The school believes that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil’s physical development and well being.

The curriculum is intended to develop increasing self-confidence in pupil’s ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations. Progressing learning objectives, combined with sympathetic and varied teaching approaches, endeavour to provide stimulating, enjoyable, satisfying and appropriately challenging learning experiences for all pupils.

It is intended that pupils, irrespective of their innate ability, will enjoy success and be motivated to develop their individual potential. It is important that pupils are given the opportunity to evaluate their performance to improve it and their success.

Physical Education is considered as a vehicle to facilitate access to cross-curricular themes, skills and dimensions, rather than a subject concerned exclusively with the acquisition of motor skills and techniques.

Aims:

Physical Education aims to provide students with a variety of opportunities in a range of activities. We also aim to provide a learning environment that will give the students opportunities that they may not otherwise experience.

It is the aim of the Physical Education curriculum to:

  • Educate and develop each individual to enable them to understand the need for participation in            purposeful physical activity.
  • Promote positive attitudes towards health, hygiene and fitness.
  •   Promote the social, moral and aesthetic aspects of the activity.
  • Encourage students to recognise the more psychological side of Physical Education and respect the opportunity which it gives to channel their emotions and feelings.
  • To encourage pupils to acknowledge the possible acquirement of skills and therefore mental and             therefore mental and physical well being for life.

  • To develop a sense of fair play and sportsmanship
